Researchers, academics and doctoral candidates are invited to submit their proposals for the 7th Conference on English Language and Literary Studies (CELLS 7), which will take place on 25–26 September 2026 at the University of Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina), in a hybrid format.

Organised by the Faculty of Philology – English Department, in association with the Academy of Arts – Music Department, this year’s conference explores the theme:

The Music of Language and the Language of Music: Static and Dynamic Perspectives on Expression, Form and Meaning

The conference will examine the rich interactions between language, literature and music, bringing together scholars from different disciplines to discuss how these forms of expression shape meaning, creativity and human experience.

The organisers particularly welcome contributions addressing topics such as:

  • Rhythm and pattern across music, language and literature;
  • Translation as a bridge between music, language and literature;
  • Music inspiring language and literary creation;
  • From literature to song, opera and musical forms;
  • Digital and experimental approaches to music-language intersections;
  • Music in language learning and pedagogy.

Keynote Speakers

The conference will feature keynote lectures by:

  • John Frederick Bailyn (Stony Brook University, USA)
  • Franc Marušič (University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia)
  • Miloš Zatkalik (University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia)

Important Dates

  • Abstract submission deadline: 1 July 2026
  • Notification of acceptance: 8 July 2026
  • Early-bird registration: 30 August 2026
  • Final registration: 6 September 2026
  • Conference: 25–26 September 2026
  • Full paper submission: 31 January 2027

Selected papers will be published in the journal Filolog.

Conference Format

The conference will be held in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend either in person at the University of Banja Luka or online.
