To mark the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, the University of Banja Luka is organising an international online webinar entitled “Food Waste Reduction Challenges” on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Organised within the framework of the EU-funded BEAMING and Across projects, the webinar aims to raise awareness among the public and expert communities about one of today’s major environmental and economic challenges: reducing food loss and waste while promoting more sustainable food systems.
Topics covered
The webinar will address:
- The causes, quantities and sources of food waste;
- Understanding date labels and product shelf life to reduce waste;
- Consumer habits and behaviour as key factors in reducing food loss and waste;
- The use of post-harvest technologies to prevent fruit loss;
- Innovative approaches to valorising fruit-processing by-products;
- The use of mycoproteins in recycled and upcycled food.
The event is open to members of the academic community, students, food technology specialists and anyone interested in expanding their knowledge and actively contributing to food waste reduction.
