International Conference “Language, Culture, and Communication in the Digital Age”, organized by the University of Ruse, Bulgaria and the University of Craiova, Romania

On November 10th, 2025, within the framework of the Across alliance, the international scientific conference Language, Culture, and Communication in the Digital Age took place, organized by the University of Ruse (Bulgaria) and the University of Craiova (Romania). The conference was held in a hybrid format.

It included four panels:

The scientific forum was organized as part of the events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the University of Ruse.

Twenty-two researchers from partner universities in the Across alliance participated in the conference with their papers – Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany; University of Perpignan Via Domitia, France; University of Udine, Italy; University of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bialystok University of Technology, Poland; Ivan Franko University, Lviv, Ukraine, as well as a wide range of participants from the organizing universities of Craiova and Ruse.

At the opening of the conference, the participants were greeted by the Rector of the University of Ruse, Assoc. Prof. Desislava Atanasova, Assoc. Prof. Sorin Cazacu, who delivered a greeting on behalf of the Rector of the University of Craiova – Prof. Cezar Ionuţ Spînu, and Ariane Korn from the Across Management Team, who delivered a plenary speech on the topic: Across – Identities in Dialogue: Communication Without Borders.

In their presentations, the participants discussed challenging topics related to the development of language, identities, and media discourse in the digital age, with a large part of them focusing on contemporary applications of artificial intelligence in this field.

All papers presented at the conference will be published in January 2026 in a special issue of the Journal of Applied Linguistic and Intercultural Studies.

The theme of the conference is one of the unifying directions for the development of multilateral scientific cooperation within the Across alliance, and the idea of making the scientific forum an annual event will add value to the Across mission as a European University for Cross-Border Knowledge Sharing.

The presentations are published at a rate of one per week on the Across YouTube channel.
