UR: Online Round Table on Inclusion and Diversity – University of Ruse Participation
On 23rd May 2025, representatives of the
University of Ruse
took part in an online round table organized by the international ACROSS team under task 1.4 Inclusion, Gender, Equality and Diversity. The topic of the discussion was:
ACROSS BORDERS AND BIASES — INCLUSION IN ACTION: BRIDGING DIFFERENCES.
Students with disabilities, international students and lecturers from all Across universities took part in the two panels of the discussion: Personal experience and Good practices and support.
The students shared their exciting and challenging stories of inclusion in the academic environment. All participants expressed gratitude for the support of their classmates and professors, who accept them as equal and help them succeed in the academic process and extracurricular activities.
A participant from the University of Ruse was Miroslav Hristov, a first-year student in Social Activities Bachelor Program. He has a movement disability and every day travels the distance from his home to the university on an electric tricycle donated by an IT company. Miroslav talked about his process of adapting to the university environment created at the University of Ruse for students in his situation. Thanks to the good accessibility conditions and the support of his fellow students and professors, Miroslav does not experience any difficulties and is involved in all the activities of his group. As a background for his participation, Miroslav used a poster specially made for the event by the first-year students in Social Activities and presenting a heart-shaped puzzle as a message of equality between all people in the world, regardless of differences.
