Challenge-based learning is a key approach of the Across Alliance. Courses such as the “Design Communication Class” have the great advantage that students can apply their knowledge to real-life scenarios.

In the summer semester of 2024, more than 50 students from the Chemnitz University of Technology take part in the “Design Communication” course.

Structure of the course

Students will be introduced to the theoretical background of creativity, visual and interactive design. This includes learning about colour theory, compositional structure, font and typography as well as screen design, screen typography, prototyping software and design sprint methods.

The second part of the course is a design challenge to prototype digital spaces for Across members within the planned eCampus of the Across Alliance. Initial ideas range from digital exhibitions to quiz evenings.

Benny Liebold and Ariane Korn from the Across Team Chemnitz have introduced the students to the Across Alliances, the eCampus concept, and possible use cases of the “Digital Third Space”.

Final Presentations

The course will culminate in a presentation of the students’ work on July 7. A jury of experts, including Maximilian Eibl, Vice Rector for Internationalisation at Chemnitz University of Technology, will review the projects.

Stay tuned for an overview of the prototypes and presentations on the Across News page.
