This milestone fulfills the commitment outlined in the Grant Agreement to deliver a secure, accessible, and fully functional digital environment supporting core academic services across the alliance.

The eCampus beta platform is now available and provides a secure, online environment for students, teachers, and staff. Designed with usability and flexibility in mind, the platform offers a range of key services, including a comprehensive course and event catalogue with registration capabilities, a mobility guide covering partner universities and student life, and a thesis board for academic collaboration. Authenticated users will benefit from a customizable dashboard tailored to their profile and institutional affiliation.

Central to the eCampus is its federated Learning Management System (LMS) approach. Rather than replacing existing institutional systems, the platform connects them, allowing users to access local LMS environments through a unified interface using secure single sign-on authentication through eduGAIN. This decentralized model strengthens collaboration while respecting institutional autonomy and flexibilty.

Security is a core priority. The platform follows a “Security by Design” approach aligned with the European Higher Education Interoperability Framework. Authentication is enabled via eduGAIN, ensuring that users log in with their home institution credentials while maintaining data privacy. Currently, users from 8 out of 9 partner universities can access the system, with further integrations underway.

The development process combined technical robustness with practical usability. A WordPress-based frontend enables easy content management by non-technical staff, while a sophisticated knowledge graph infrastructure supports the platform’s federated data strategy behind the scenes. Early features were prioritized to meet immediate needs, such as course registration and attendance tracking tools for instructors.

The beta release of the platform represents an important first step. While operational, it will continue to evolve through user feedback, scalability testing, and the addition of new services such as communication tools, academic calendars, and enhanced researcher support.

Looking ahead, the platform will be rolled out to all students and staff. Ongoing efforts will also focus on completing authentication integration across all partner institutions, ensuring full participation in the shared digital ecosystem.

The launch of the eCampus beta marks a significant milestone for the Across Alliance.
