Exploring the role of Artificial Intelligence in education from a European perspective

How is Artificial Intelligence transforming education? What skills do students need to navigate an increasingly AI-driven society? And how can we ensure that the development and use of AI in education remain innovative, responsible and human-centred?

From 9 to 13 November 2026, the University of Girona will host the Across Seasonal School for Humans & Technology: AI and Education, bringing together students and staff from Across partner universities for an intensive week of learning, collaboration and international exchange.

📍 Location: Faculty of Tourism, Barri Vell Campus, University of Girona
📅 Dates: 9–13 November 2026

A second edition building on an international experience

The 2026 Seasonal School is the second edition of the International Summer School for Humans & Technologies, first organised at Chemnitz University of Technology in 2023.

Building on the success of the first edition, the programme returns within the framework of the Across Alliance, offering students the opportunity to explore the role of Artificial Intelligence in education through a strongly integrated European and cross-border perspective.

Over five intensive days, participants will engage with AI not only as a technological development, but also as a phenomenon with important educational, social, ethical and cultural implications.

An interdisciplinary learning experience

The Seasonal School combines lectures, workshops and project-based learning, creating an interdisciplinary environment in which different fields come together.

Participants will explore AI and education from perspectives including:

  • Education and pedagogy
  • Computer science and engineering
  • Media and communication
  • Tourism
  • Architecture
  • Business
  • Social sciences
  • Creative disciplines

Working throughout the week in international and multidisciplinary teams, students will have the opportunity to share knowledge, develop ideas and approach complex challenges from different academic and cultural perspectives.

The programme places particular emphasis on critical AI literacy, practical competences and ethical awareness. Through hands-on activities and collaborative projects, participants will be encouraged to critically reflect on the opportunities and challenges associated with AI and its growing role in education and society.

Learn, collaborate and connect across Europe

Beyond the academic programme, the Seasonal School offers an opportunity to experience the benefits of international and intercultural collaboration.

Students will work alongside peers from different European universities, fostering:

  • 🌍 Intercultural exchange and international collaboration
  • 💡 Critical thinking about AI, technology and education
  • 🤝 Collaborative problem-solving in multidisciplinary teams
  • 🤖 Practical skills related to Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies
  • 🎓 New perspectives on education, innovation and digital transformation
  • 💬 Peer learning and knowledge exchange
  • 🚀 Professional and personal development in an international environment

The experience will also allow participants to expand their international networks and become more actively involved in the Across community.

A collaboration across six European universities

The Seasonal School is jointly organised by six Across partner universities:

  • University of Girona, Spain
  • Technische Universität Chemnitz, Germany
  • University of Perpignan, France
  • University of Ruse, Bulgaria
  • University of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • University of Udine, Italy

This international cooperation reflects the core objectives of the Across Alliance: strengthening cross-border academic cooperation, encouraging intercultural dialogue and creating new opportunities for students and staff to learn and collaborate across Europe.

Through this shared initiative, the Seasonal School aims to provide students with a holistic and critical understanding of Artificial Intelligence in contemporary European education and society, bringing together technological expertise with social, educational, ethical and creative perspectives.

Who can participate?

The Seasonal School is open to students from all Across partner universities, regardless of their field of study, who are interested in technology, innovation, education and the social impact of Artificial Intelligence.

Whether your background is in computer science, education, tourism, engineering, social sciences, communication, business, architecture or the creative disciplines, the interdisciplinary format of the programme offers an opportunity to contribute your perspective and learn from others.
