University of Girona welcomes University of Udine delegation through Across
Students and staff from the University of Udine visited the University of Girona to explore its academic programmes, research activities and facilities, while identifying new opportunities for mobility and cooperation.
From 7 to 9 September 2026, the Faculty of Science at the University of Girona (UdG) welcomed a delegation of students, academic staff and administrative staff from the University of Udine (UNIUD). Organised within the framework of Across, the visit aimed to strengthen academic cooperation, international mobility and the development of new joint initiatives.
The Italian delegation included students in Medicine, Biotechnology and Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, accompanied by professors from the Department of Medicine. During their stay, they discovered the Faculty of Science’s academic programmes and facilities, as well as several of the University of Girona’s research areas.
The programme included meetings with the coordinators of the Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Biotechnology and the Master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine. The delegation also took part in campus tours led by UdG students and attended presentations by research groups specialising in biomedicine and biotechnology.
Visits to research laboratories gave participants further insight into UdG’s scientific activities and the opportunities available for mobility and research cooperation between the two universities.
Alongside the student programme, UNIUD professors held several working meetings with representatives of the Faculty of Science, including the Vice-Dean for External Relations, degree coordinators, academic leads and UdG’s Across Alliance officer responsible for the teaching component. These discussions provided an opportunity to review the courses available to Erasmus students and identify new ways to increase mobility between the two institutions.
One of the main outcomes of the visit was an agreement to begin preparing a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) for the 2026–2027 academic year. The partners also made progress in their discussions on a possible future joint Master’s degree involving the participating institutions. The proposed international programme could include specialised study tracks and a double-degree option and is currently at the definition and feasibility assessment stage.
The visit strengthened ties between the University of Girona and the University of Udine while supporting the objectives of Across: promoting international cooperation, educational innovation and shared academic opportunities for students and university staff.
