UPVD: Interview with Joan Chillon
Joan, 19, is a History and Geography student at Université de Perpignan (UPVD) , France, and is actively involved in civic organizations. He is also engaged in the communication activities of the ACROSS alliance, with the goal of involving more students in its development and operations.
Why did you agree to join the Across Student Council at UPVD?
As an elected member of the UPVD Board of Directors, getting involved in my university is very important to me. That’s why I decided to join the ACROSS Student Council. My role is to raise awareness of ACROSS among my peers, particularly through its social media channels, and to help shape educational projects with the teams. Ultimately, I hope the alliance will become a central part of our students’ academic journey.
As a student, what do you expect from this alliance?
Being part of a European university is a great opportunity for us as students, especially with simplified mobility within our academic paths. Attending events and internships organized by partner universities offers valuable opportunities. In addition, the creation of double degrees and online courses can attract new students and provide us with more training options.
Your studies are preparing you for your future career: why do you think a European experience is important?
In 2025, gaining international experience is essential in many academic programs. Going abroad with ACROSS is a way to master other languages while acquiring new skills. Since I’m interested in international relations, having the chance to meet other European students is a real opportunity to build a European network.
